Belkin Launches New Line of USB Media Reader/WritersTransfer Files, Images and Music to PCs or Macs (November 08, 2001)
The new line, which is intended for consumers who want to download files, pictures or music from the media card in their digital camera, PDA, cell phone, handheld computer or MP3 player to their PC or Mac computer, will begin shipping in North America on Nov. 12, 2001.
The line consists of four new devices. First is the Belkin USB Media Reader/Writer for CompactFlash (F5U140 -- ESP $29.95), which includes a dedicated slot that accommodates both Type I and Type II Cards. Second is the Belkin USB Media Reader/Writer for SmartMedia (F5U141 -- ESP $34.95), which includes a dedicated slot that accommodates SmartMedia Cards. Next is the Belkin USB Dual Media Reader/Writer for CompactFlash and SmartMedia cards (F5U142 -- ESP $49.95), which includes a dedicated slot for CompactFlash I and II cards and a dedicated slot for SmartMedia cards -- allowing you to attach other Belkin USB hubs and adapters. Lastly is the Belkin USB Media Reader/Writer for MultiMedia Cards/Secure Digital Cards (F5U143 -- ESP $29.95).
All four Belkin Media Reader/Writers allow users to edit as necessary and store all of their files on their computer. They are powered through a computer's USB port, eliminating the need for AC adapters, additional power supplies or batteries. They provide data transfer speeds of up to 12Mbps, which is 40 times faster than transfers through a serial interface. Their design is compact and can be placed either in a vertical or horizontal manner, which saves desktop space. All four also feature true Plug-and-Play, hot-swap capability.
