Belief Designs Show Open For Cannonball Run 2001

(September 18, 2001)
Belief, a Santa Monica-based broadcast design and production studio, was tapped by USA Networks to create a show package for its first, reality-based original series, Cannonball Run
2001 Race Across America. The show surrounds a five-day, coast-to-coast race from New York City, New York to Venice Beach, California in which six mismatched teams driving classic, customized vehicles compete for a grand
prize of $100,000.

Beliefs artists designed the shows opening sequences,
animated diagrams, maps and other show graphics for each of the five episodes.

The concept of the open was based on the shows lively and humorous logo, a flaming cannonball. The comic fireball gave the opening a playfullness that set the mood for the show. The open was also designed as a framing device to highlight the races exciting daily footage. This enabled the network to
simply plug-in new material each day, providing viewers an updated guide to the latest activity of the race teams. Belief created the piece on a Mac-based network using Adobes After Effects 5.0, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Media 100i.

"The project never went out to tape, instead the job was delivered to the client on removable harddrives. When the animations were completed, everything was rendered to the new Avid uncompressed CODEC. This allowed the client to use the files on their Avid Symphony and layer in footage with the animations built-in mattes." commented Mike Goedecke, Founder of Belief.
