Barack Obama Painting by Los Angeles Based Pop Culture Artist Paul Rusconi Chosen by The U.S. Department of State

(January 25, 2012)

HOLLYWOOD, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/25/12 -- Paul Rusconi, Los Angeles based American pop culture artist, known for his work with a digital screening process, combined with nail polish and monochromatic photography, was chosen by The U.S. Department of State for their "Art in Embassies" exhibit in Stockholm, Sweden.

The featured work of art is a Paul Rusconi piece named, "BARACK OBAMA," which is now on display at The United States Embassy in Stockholm, Courtesy of the International Contemporary Art Foundation, Laura Lee Brown, and Steve Wilson, Louisville, Kentucky.

"This piece happens to be one of my favorites," says Rusconi, "not only is Barack Obama our first elected African-American U.S. President, but he created, through The U.S. Department of State, a means to share American art throughout the world, while finding common ground with peoples of different countries, faiths and backgrounds. It's a remarkable program for uniting people while sharing American artistic values globally. I'm humbled and honored to be a part of it."

About Art In Embassies
Art In Embassies' exhibitions allow foreign citizens, many of whom might never travel to the United States, to personally experience the depth and breadth of American artistic heritage and values, making what has been called a: ''footprint that can be left where people have no opportunity to see American art.''

Paul Rusconi is best known for his portraits of subjects who define pop culture. Some of today's most influential people have sat for Rusconi including President Obama, Karl Lagerfeld, Mary-Kate Olsen, Kate Moss, Paris Hilton and the list goes on. He depicts his subjects in an honest and sometimes ironic way that has made his body of work very identifiable. It is apparent within his work that Rusconi has also been influenced by art icons such as Andy Warhol, Chuck Close, Gilbert & George and Robert Rauschenberg. Works by Rusconi are found in public art institutions, including The Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, the Interface Foundation, The Castilla Foundation, The Batonga Foundation (Madrid), the Carnegie Art Museum, The Gagosian Gallery, and 20th Century Fox.
