BBC Motion Gallery Footage Featured in Oscar-Nominated FilmsNominees in Best Picture and Documentary categories tap BBC and CBS News Archives to boost storytelling in acclaimed films (February 15, 2006)
BBC Motion Gallery, the footage licensing arm of BBC Worldwide and the exclusive global representative for the CBS News Archive, congratulate the 2006 Oscar® nominees. BBC Motion Gallery (www.bbcmotiongallery.com) licensed memorable shots to films nominated in the Best Picture and Best Documentary categories including ?Good Night, And Good Luck, ?March of the Penguins, and ?Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room. The winners will be announced at the 78th Annual Academy Awards® presented on Sunday, March 5th, at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.
Director George Clooneys newsroom drama, ?Good Night, And Good Luck, is nominated for a total of six Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. Clooney and his production company Section Eight licensed 20 minutes of archival footage through BBC Motion Gallery from the CBS News Archive to chronicle the story of CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow. This film also marks the first time in over a decade (since the release of ?Forest Gump) that a Best Picture nominee has used a substantial amount of archival footage to tell its story.
?March of The Penguins, nominated for Best Documentary, tells the remarkable journey of the Emperor Penguins as they migrate through the barren glaciers of Antarctica. Filmmakers sourced material from BBCs natural history division to help enlighten the heartwarming tale. ?Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, also nominated for Best Documentary, licensed CBS News footage to bring the story behind the infamous Enron scandal to the big screen.
?The range of Oscar® nominated films that have licensed material from BBC Motion Gallery?and the wide variety of ways in which that footage was used, is truly a testament to the rich quality and scope of material that we offer, said Jan Ross, Senior Vice President, BBC Motion Gallery. ?We congratulate our customers and are truly honored to have contributed to such highly lauded features.
