Axis Post Opens Up with eQ for Multi-Format HD ProductionShepperton-based facility teams up with Axis Films to offer clients end-to-end HD service (February 06, 2006)
A brand new post production company named Axis Post is poised to open in a newly built facility at Londons Shepperton Studios with a fully optioned Quantel eQ HD system at its heart. Axis Post is the brainchild of leading film and video camera and crew hire company, Axis Films and widely respected video editor, Ralston Humble. It will open its doors in February 2006.
?There is a plethora of SD and HD formats out there; the idea behind Axis Post is to smooth our clients path from shooting with us through to helping them with their post production. We need to give them the best possible quality results, and with the majority of our sessions being client-attended, we also need speed and reliability, said Ralston Humble. ?Clients are shooting on HDCAM and Varicam and more recently even on HDV. I was being asked to combine all these different formats into one programme. The eQs Resolution Co-existence came to my rescue.
?With eQ I can just throw any and every format onto the timeline even SD Digi-Beta, Humble continues. ?My clients love it and they dont have to pay for frame rate converter boxes for the Varicam footage either, because the eQ can read the different recorded frame rates automatically when I am conforming.
?Working alongside the eQ we have a Quantel QEffects HD workstation and two FCP suites. I am able to share media from the eQ with my edit assistant and she can work on rotoscoping and titles while I carry on with the edit giving our clients more value in the session. What blows them away is that at the end of the session I can just play out any format and frame rate they want in realtime from the eQ in HD and SD 4:3 and 16:9, with no rendering. I used to have to render out overnight in order to deliver the different versions they asked me for not any more!
?Another powerful reason for choosing the eQ is that when you are working with true uncompressed HD footage and laying off a 50 minute programme, you need a system that gives you the peace of mind that you wont have any dropped frames, Humble concludes.
Paul Carter, Axis Films Managing Director, added, ?We are thrilled that Ralston is joining our HD team with his extensive experience. Axis Post has come about at a time when in 2005 we experienced an amazing 65% growth in HDCAM hire, and we wanted to enhance the service we could offer to clients. With Ralstons editing reputation on the eQ, our clients are going to enjoy a smooth, exciting HD transition in 2006.
