Avid World: More Than Just a User ConferenceConference?s Exhibitors to Showcase Latest Innovations
The event is being held Dec. 9-12 at New York's Jacob Javits Convention Center. A sampling of events includes the following:
The ?Next Gig Soiree, on Tuesday, October 9, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., will put attendees in the same room as top editors and producers from several TV networks, news shows and recording companies, as well as representatives from Fortune 1000 companies, Hollywood and ad agencies.
The event kicks off with a ?Power Panel of heavyweights from TV networks, post-production facilities, record labels and ad agencies, discussing jobs and recruiting. After a Q&A session, a networking cocktail reception will follow, and all conference attendees are admitted free to this three-hour career-enhancing party.
Panelists include: Marshall Grupp, Grupp Sound Design & Music and Co-owner, Sound Lounge; Warren Lustig, senior editor, CBS's "60 Minutes II"; Peter Sgro, VP, Post Production, Lifetime Television for Women; Mark Shimmel, Sr. VP, Marketing & Artist Relations, Arista Records; Rick Cordero, President, Pavement, Inc. George Avgerakis, contributing editor to Videography magazine, will moderate this panel.
The conferences four ?gold sponsors are B&H, Postworks, Virtual Media Technology and Video Corporation of America. In addition, more than 30 companies related to the audio and video industries will be exhibiting their latest innovations on the Avid World expo floor. Some of the companies scheduled to be displaying include:
GenArts, Inc. ? A provider of digital visual effects plug-ins, GenArts will be highlighting the release of its Sapphire Plug-ins version 1.1, which expands their extensive arsenal of visual effects tools to Avid Media Composer and Avid Xpress system users on Macintosh hardware. Version 1.1 also contains new effects and feature enhancements, making Sapphire Plug-ins a more powerful complement to Avid AVX products. The company will also be announcing that the Sapphire Plug-in is now available for Avid systems through the AVX interface, including Avid|DS 4.0, Symphony, Media Composer for the Windows NT platform, Avid Xpress for the Windows NT platform and Avid Xpress DV.
Boris Information ? A developer of integrated effects technology, Boris will be offering demonstrations and training with Boris RED 2.1, the latest version of their AVX titling and effects plug-in. Some of the benefits of Boris RED for Avid editors include: titling; resolution independence; vector file import; vector paint and rotoscoping; flexible, high-quality keys; and offline, cross-platform effects creation options.
Studio Network Solutions (SNS) ? Specializing in Storage Area Network (SAN) design, planning and implementation for audio/video production and post-production facilities, SNS has built a solid base of customers for its A/V SAN system among Digidesign Pro Tools power users, including Tom Laune, Fred Paragano and Matt Huesman. At Avid World, the company will be highlighting and demonstrating its A/V SAN Fibre Channel technology. SNS will also be announcing the sale of a system to Vidfilm International Digital and engineer Fred Paragano. The company will also display a MAC and NT-compatible version of Fibre Channel A/V SAN that integrates seamlessly with non-linear editing platforms used in film, graphics and video post-production arenas.
StorCase Technology ? A manufacturer of removable storage products, StorCase will be displaying the InfoStation II, the second-generation backplane enclosure with a new look and additional features.
