Avid Ships Unity MediaNet 2.1

Latest release support Mac dual-stream uncompressed systems By Dave Nagel
Avid has started shipping the Avid Unity MediaNet 2.1 system, the company's shared media network. The new release, according to Avid, broadens the Avid Unity workgroup to Ethernet-connected editing systems, increasing the total supported client count to 50 simultaneous real-time systems. Avid says it has has qualified 14 dual-stream uncompressed systems on a MediaNet system. The latest release also sees the system gaining feature parity between Macintosh and Windows clients, including the ability to share media between two dual stream uncompressed systems.

One of the new features in 2.1 is PortServer Pro, which allows real-time editing clients to access MediaNet through an Ethernet connection. The NewsCutter XP system is the first editing client supported on PortServer Pro. For finishing, the new version now supports 14 clients.

Version 2.1 also adds Macintosh-specific enhancements, including sharing for Macintosh dual-stream uncompressed systems. (This was previously available only for Windows-based systems.) The Mac also gains PortServer support, which allows graphics, animation and other Macintosh-based workstations to take advantage of Ethernet connectivity to the system.

Avid Unity MediaNet 2.1 is available now. Pricing varies depending on configuration. For more information, visit
