Symphony 4.7 among new releases By Dave Nagel
Avid today released highly anticipated Mac OS X versions of its non-linear editing systems. Among the new releases are Symphony 4.7--the first Macintosh version of this NLE--and Media Composer XL, Film Composer XL and Xpress. All of the new versions are available now.

Avid calls Symphony 4.7 its "most powerful Mac platform-based postproduction solution to date." The Mac OS X version offers real-time 10-bit DVE, Ultimatte keying and color correction. It also supports 23.976 FPS projects for all Media Composer systems and new MetaSync technology for synchronizing metadata with audio and video content.

Avid also released Media Composer XL, Film Composer XL and Avid Xpress systems for Mac OS X. These new versions also offer real-time, "Symphony-style" color correction, as well as 23.976 FPS project support for all Media Composer systems and MetaSync technology.

Through March 28, the new Symphony 4.7 systems will sell for 22 percent off the regular price of $90,000. Film Composer XL 11.7 starts at $53,000. Media Composer 11.7 starts at $12,000. And Xpress 5.7 starts at $5,999. Avid says all of the systems should be available this quarter. For more information, visit
