Avid Ships Media Composer Adrenaline

NLE system supports real-time, multi-stream, uncompressed standard-definition video editing By Dave Nagel
Avid today shipped its new Media Composer Adrenaline non-linear editing system. Media Composer Adrenaline combines Avid's Media Composer software with the new Adrenaline hardware, part of Avid's new line of DNA hardware acceleration technologies. The system is available now in configurations for Mac OS X and Windows.

The Adrenaline hardware brings real-time, multi-stream, uncompressed standard-definition video editing to Media Composer systems, along with 10-bit high-definition expandability. It supports uncompressed SD video over a standard FireWire and includes 24p Film Composer offline editing functionality, 24-bit audio and real-time color correction that can automatically correct an entire sequence with a single click, according to Avid. It can also operate with Avid Unity MediaNetwork and supports Avid Meridien (JFIF), ABVB (AVRs), DV25, DV50, IMX and uncompressed 601 media in the same timeline. Other features include:

  • Backward compatibility with AVR and Meridien projects and media;
  • New real-time Open GL 2D and 3D DVE;
  • 10-bit SMPTE 259M SDI serial digital I/O;
  • Component YPbPr, S-Video and composite I/O;
  • DV I/O with real-time analog-to-DV and DV-to-analog conversion;
  • Uncompressed PAL and NTSC ITU-R-601 formats;
  • Sync reference input;
  • Serial deck control and FireWire deck control;
  • 48 kHz, 44.1 kHz and 32 kHz I/O at 16- or 24-bit resolution;
  • Eight channels of ADAT audio I/O or stereo Toslink optical S/PDIF;
  • Four channels AES/EBU digital audio I/O;
  • Four channels RCA analog audio inputs;
  • Four channels XLR analog audio inputs;
  • Separate stereo monitor output;
  • Support for up to five streams of uncompressed SD video.

A complete list of features is available on Avid's Web site.

Media Composer Adrenaline is available now for $24,995. It supports Mac OS X and Windows. (See Avid's site for a list of qualified hardware.) For more information, visit
