Avid Intros Xpress DV 3

Avid today announced Xpress DV 3, the first version of the editing suite to run on the Mac. The software is targeted mainly toward those who edit on the road and sells for around $1,700. The first Macintosh release is schedules for mid-2002.

Avid Xpress DV 3 software offers more than 100 real-time effects, such as dissolves, titles, color effects, picture in picture and motion effects, with multiple simultaneous real-time streams all in software. Avid Xpress DV 3 effects are customizable and previewed onscreen exactly as they will appear when rendered.

Other new Avid Xpress D 3 features include:P>
  • 24 FPS EDL support;
  • A new user interface featuring customizable tool sets, Media Composer source-record style editing and SuperBin;
  • New keyframe model with bezier controls and keyframes per parameter;
  • Avid Unity LANshare support ;
  • New Avid DV CODEC;
  • Eight video tracks with unlimited nesting;

Xpress DV 3 will ship for Windows this month. The Mac version will ship in mid-2002. System requirements have not et been announced for Xpress DV on the Mac. On the Windows side, real-time effects require a processor running at 750 MHz or faster. The standard configuration runs $1,699. The Xpress DV PowerPack sells for $2,999. For more information, visit
