Autonomous University of Madrid Selects Mitrion Platform to Accelerate CFD Algorithms for Flight Physics Simulations(October 07, 2009)
LOS GATOS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/07/09 -- Mitrionics, Inc., the technology leader in FPGA-based hybrid computing, today announced that researchers from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) Computer Engineering Department have selected the Mitrion(TM) Accelerated Computing Platform for a special engineering project. The test project is designed to significantly accelerate the execution of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) algorithms used for flight physics simulations with the objective of reducing the overall design time of airplanes. Researchers will utilize mathematical methods to take advantage of parallel hardware and the Mitrion-C parallel programming language as a rapid development tool. To begin its project, UAM purchased the Mitrion Virtual Processor and Mitrion Software Development Kit to accelerate the CFD algorithm on a dual coprocessor computer system equipped with dual Altera® Stratix III® FPGAs.
The Mitrion Accelerated Computing Platform is designed to provide researchers and developers with the latest parallel programming tools for FPGAs that do not require any hardware design knowledge or experience. The Mitrion Platform enables rapid development of new accelerated applications in bioinformatics, computer-aided design, data mining, financial services, government/defense, and oil and gas industries. Systems running applications accelerated using the Mitrion Platform generally perform 20x faster than traditional systems while decreasing electrical power requirements by ninety percent.
