Auto.des.sys Shows Off New Form.Z Features

Auto.des.sys Shows Off New Form.Z FeaturesPlugins arrive for new 4.0 'open architecture' By Dave Nagel
Auto.des.sys is showing off a beta version of Form.Z 4.0 at this week's Siggraph convention. Form.Z is primarily a 3D modeler. Version 4.0 will be the first version to run in Mac OS X natively and should ship in final form shortly after the show, according to the company.

According to Auto.des.sys, one of the features not previously demonstrated will include new plugins, particularly in the area of rendering. This is a result of Form.Z's new open architecture, which allows programmers to develop plugins in C and C++ and incorporate direct calls to internal Form.Z parameters. Other new features in 4.0 include:

  • Extensive set of NURBS;
  • Point cloud threading for deriving properly structured objects from arbitrary and unstructured collections of coordinate point as generated by 3D laser digitizers;
  • Lights in symbols;
  • Sketch rendering;
  • Network rendering;
  • Interface improvements, including the adoption of the Mac OS X Aqua interface;
  • RenderZone 4.0 support for multiple processors on Mac OS X;
  • A new C-like script language.

Auto.des.sys has also released an incremental update to Form.Z (version 3.9.5), which fixes some "irregularities" found in the 3.9 release.

Pricing information for Form.Z 4.0 is not yet available. Nor is a firm ship date. It supports Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, as well as Windows. Those who purchased version 3.9 or later since April 25 will receive version 4.0 as a free update. For more information, visit http://www.formz.com.
