Auto-des-sys Releases Form-Z 4.1.2

New version gets UI and modeling enhancements By Dave Nagel
Auto-des-sys has updated Form-Z, the company's 3D modeling application. The new 4.1.2 version includes enhancements to modeling, UI and import/export, as well as fixes for a variety of issues. It's available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.

Form-Z--which, incidentally, turns 13 years old this weekend (Feb. 14)--is a solid and surface modeler with a variety of 2D and 3D manipulation and sculpting capabilities. The 4.x generation includes a new network renderer; new rendering modes, including a sketch renderer, point-cloud re-rendering and STEP translation; and 22 new modeling tools, such as lofting, new blending and filleting and additional parametric editing capabilities. The 4.1.2 update includes enhancements to the interface; several improvements and fixes in the area of modeling; a fix for a crash caused by printing a draft; improvements to import of DWG files; and improvements to RenderZone. A complete list of fixes is available on the company's Web site.

In other Form-Z news, Auto-des-sys says it's working on the next major release of the program, version 4.5. The company says invitations for beta testers are forthcoming and that it will keep third-party developers and script writers posted as the APIs for the new version become available.

Form-Z 4.1.2 is available now as a free update for current users on Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows. For more information, visit http://www.formz.com.
