Aurora Adds FCP Real-Time Features

Update includes Color Correction 3-Way By Dave Nagel
Aurora Video Systems says it's added new real-time support for Apple's Final Cut Pro with its Igniter series of editing boards. The IgniterRT, which already had some real-time functionality, now numbers the Color Correction 3-Way among its real-time features. Aurora's boards are available only for the Macintosh.

Final Cut Pro's Color Correction 3-Way feature is used to adjust color balance, black levels, midtones and white levels. The real-time capability for this function applies to all video outputs, "with no rendering needed, even when laying to tape," according to Aurora. This feature is available through a downloadable software update from Aurora's Web site.

IgniterRT supports real time effects using Final Cut Pro in both uncompressed and MJPEG-A formats. It has a 16-bit working color depth with 10-bit digital output. It supports ATA drives and offers options for component, SDI and film. The base board, with composite and S-video inputs, runs $1,999. The component option, which includes the base board, component I/O and XLR I/O, runs $3,999.
