Audio Exchange International Introduces The Thermionic Culture Pullet To U.S. Market

Passive equalizer now suited to be used with any preamp available (February 07, 2006)

Audio Exchange International, Inc. (AXI) is pleased to introduce the newly redesigned Thermionic Culture Pullet to the U.S. Market. The Pullet, a passive equalizer originally designed to complement the Earlybird preamp, is now suited to be used with any preamp available.

The Pullet provides a variable Q boost at 11 frequencies of 21 dB and simultaneously a cut at 11 frequencies of 21 dB. In addition, high top can be boosted or cut with a shelving filter. The Earlybird provides the gain make-up required after a line-level signal has been passed through the Pullets passive EQ network.

?We are very excited to introduce the Pullet to the U.S. market, says Chris Walsh, director of sales and marketing for AXI. ?The passive EQ of the Pullet takes full control over any mid-range frequencies while the active EQ of the Earlybird gives a smooth sounding control over the bass and top frequencies. The passive EQ yields a much better result when radically boosting or cutting mid-frequencies with a tight Q compared to an active EQ.

By using the Pullet, it is possible to boost a narrow band of mid-range by 21 dB with a musical sounding result whereas an active EQ may start to sound harsh and begin to ring. The preamp needs to give between 38 to 40 dB of gain make-up and ideally will have an input impedance of 1,200 ohms. Tests using a range of commercially available preamps with the Pullet have all yielded excellent results. The high input impedance (10k ohms) of the Pullet ensures optimum performance when placed in a chain after any piece of equipment.
