Audio Editing For Code 46 Done On Steinbergs NuendoPost pros rely on Steinberg?s Media Production System (August 26, 2004)
Steinbergs Nuendo Media Production System was the DAW used for all audio editing tasks during post production on Michael Winterbottoms latest movie, Code 46.
?This was an extremely challenging project, as all Winterbottom projects are, and Nuendo 2 performed brilliantly, stated Joakim Sundström, industry veteran and Supervising Sound Editor on Code 46. ?I have been using Nuendo since version 1.0, so Ive always been comfortable with it, but Nuendo 2 is the DAW out there best suited to this kind of work, he continues. ?Ive tried them all, and Nuendo 2 has an openness and flexibility that puts it out in front.
Sound Effects Editor on Code 46, Christer Melén, concurs. "There are many good DAWs out there but none as versatile and flexible as Nuendo." Editing effects for a major cinema release such as Code 46 is particularly demanding of both the editing softwares specific tools for the task and the underlying concept. "As always there were many changes during the editing process, states Melén, adding: ?The ability of Nuendo to have several projects open at the same time was a real timesaver, as we could copy and paste between them at will. And the pool and the clip editor are wonderful tools when cutting and organizing SFX."
Already on general release in the US and primed for European release in late September, Code 46 is a darkly atmospheric thriller set in a possible near future. Directed by Michael Winterbottom (The Claim, 24 Hour Party People) and starring Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption, Mission To Mars), Code 46 is a grimly futuristic love story, and has garnered favorable reviews for its beautiful camera work and stunning soundtrack.
Looking to the future, Sundström adds, ?Ill definitely be using Nuendo on my next project, a film version of John Le Carrés The Constant Gardner. Currently in principal photography, the film is being directed by Fernando Meirelles and stars Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz. ?I wouldnt even consider using any other DAW at the moment, states Sundström.
