Attorney: Suspect led officials to boy's body

Attorney: Suspect in missing family case led Omaha law enforcement to 7-year-old boy's body By The Associated Press

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) ' An attorney for one of three men charged with murder in the disappearance of a Brazilian family says his client led authorities to the spot in the Missouri River where a 7-year-old boy's body was found.

Attorney Kevin Ryan, of Omaha, tells The Associated Press that his client, Valdeir Goncalves-Santos, led law enforcement officials last Thursday to the spot where he and two other men dumped the bodies of Christopher Szczepanik and his parents.

Ryan says that in exchange for Goncalves-Santos' cooperation, prosecutors have agreed to request that he be sentenced to 20 years, meaning he could be released from prison in 10 years.

Goncalves-Santos and two other men have been charged in the deaths of Christopher and his parents, Vanderlei and Jacqueline Szczepanik, who disappeared nearly two years ago.
