Arguments intensify in LA detective's murder trialClosing arguments escalate as former LA detective's murder trial nears end
LOS ANGELES (AP) ' Prosecution and defense lawyers have made intense arguments as they prepare to submit a 26-year-old murder case against a former Los Angeles police detective to the jury.
Prosecutor Shannon Presby on Tuesday ridiculed theories that the DNA of defendant Stephanie Lazarus was planted.
But defense attorney Mark Overland insists the DNA means nothing because its collection and storage years ago was so poor it made the evidence untrustworthy.
Overland has raised multiple questions he says prosecutors failed to answer.
In rebuttal, Presby says some questions are unimportant and won't be answered. But he says the most powerful answer is that DNA from a bite mark matched Lazarus and revealed her as the killer of Sherri Rasmussen, the woman who married the man Lazarus loved.
