Arete Entertainment's Advanced Fluid Simulator Creates Imagery for Dasani Water Ad(November 27, 2001)
The revolutionary ad campaign debuted in Georgia and features several lighted boxes installed in Atlanta's North line subway route. Each box contains a portion of the Dasani ad along the 900 foot tunnel. When the train passes by, the images on the illuminated boxes appear to be animating.
Phactory Productions teamed up with Arete Entertainment to create the 3D water imagery featured in the ad. The ad shows a sequence of images showing Dasani water flowing and splashing as the camera spirals around the water revealing the tag line, "Treat Yourself Well. Everyday."
The 3D water imagery was created using Arete Entertainment's Advanced Fluid Simulator (AFS) technology. AFS incorporates novel modeling and rendering techniques that create amazing images of fully 3D fluids. Its surface description allows for the efficient merging and breaking of surfaces combined with a powerful volume rendering technique that generates exceptionally realistic animations.
"We needed an extremely realistic simulation of water pouring and splashing," said Damijan Saccio, Phactory Productions. "We checked every available water simulator out there and none compared to Arete's Advanced Fluid Simulator. It was the only one that looked truly natural. No other software we were able to find truly simulates water splashing and pouring as well as Arete's AFS. Arete was very good about working with us to meet our specific needs. In the end we were very happy with the product we came up with, and look forward to working with Arete in the future."
