Area 51 Films Launches Feature Film Division

Head of production Rachel Griffin to oversee new venture (January 03, 2002)
Area 51 Films, which produces television commercials, has launched a new division to develop and produce feature films and other long-form entertainment projects for its directors.

Rachel Griffin, the companys head of production, will oversee the new venture. Prior to coming to Area 51, Griffin's experience in film and theater production included helping to run director Keith Gordons Sidetracked Productions and developing several award winning feature projects there, including Mother Night, which starred Nick Nolte, A Midnight Clear, starring Peter Berg, Kevin Dillon and Ethan Hawke, and The Chocolate War. Area 51 Films represents directors John Adams, Scotty Bergstein, Toby Phillips and James Dalthorp.

The new division is designed to assist Area 51 Films directors in furthering their career goals and gain opportunities to direct products outside the advertising world. ?Our directors are very interested in directing features, and we will accommodate them by diversifying the services we provide, explained Griffin.

Griffin added that Area 51 Films will take an aggressive but thoughtful approach toward developing new projects. ?The company is prepared to commit the resources necessary to make this venture a success, she said. ?But we are going to be very selective. We are seeking vehicles that will make good films and are right for our directors.

Area 51 Films is located at 1501 Colorado Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90404.
