Archos Ships Portable CD-RW

Archos has shipped its new Cesar CDRW/MPM, a portable CD writer. The company says the drive is the smallest on the market, measuring 5.3 inches in diameter. It includes mastering software for Macintosh and Windows.

The new Cesar is circular in shape measures 5.3" (diameter) x 0.9" (height), slightly larger than a CD. It weighs 14.5 ounces and gets its power directly from the host computer via FireWire or USB.

The drive offers write speeds of up to 8x, rewrite speeds of up to 8x and read speeds of up to 24x. (Actual speed depends on interface type.) The drive is available with a choice of swappable interfaces, including USB 2.0, FireWire or PC Card. The CD writer has a media capacity of up to 700 MB (for an 80 minute disk) and data transfer rate of up to 3,600 KB per second max, with a 2 MB internal buffer.
