Applied Acoustics Announces String Studio Synthesizer

Synthesizer captures wide range of textures found in string instruments (January 19, 2005)

Applied Acoustics Systems today announced the upcoming release of the String Studio synthesizer for Mac OS X and Windows. String Studio is scheduled for release at the end of the first quarter of 2004.

The String Studio synthesizer swaps the traditional oscillator, filter, and envelope pattern for real-life string instrument components. At the core of String Studio lies a new, cutting edge physical model of strings interacting with picks, bows, hammers, fingers, frets, dampers, and soundboards. Through this direct approach, String Studio delivers stunning guitars, basses, harps, clavinets, bowed instruments, percussions as well as rich and animated tones that blend the warmth, naturalness, and density of real-life with unique and innovative timbres from yet unheard instruments.

"Physical modeling provides us with the possibility to design synthesizers around the familiar components of real-life instruments. Following this approach, we can develop synthesizers capable of very realistic sounds but also extremely creative tones that still bear the organic qualities of acoustic sounds," said Philippe Dérogis, CTO of Applied Acoustics Systems. "With String Studio, our goal was to capture the wide range of sounds and textures found in the different types of string instruments, but I am particularly pleased that we have also succeeded to seize the dynamic characteristics, responsiveness and subtleties of these instruments".

Pricing and Availability
The String Studio synthesizer will be available for Mac OS X and Windows systems at the end of the first quarter of 2005 at a suggested retail price of US$249.
