Application Software Sector Embraces the Mobile MarketThe Bedford Report Provides Analyst Research on Adobe & Intuit (December 23, 2010)
NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 12/23/10 -- Two themes dominated headlines in the Application Software industry in 2010: smartphones and acquisitions. Industry heavyweights have been taking advantage of the mobile trend through front-end mobile applications and online stores. Meanwhile acquisition rumors and speculation took over the spotlight in the latter half of 2010. As companies continued to grow and experience diminishing returns in their core business, some showed willingness to utilize their large resource pools to acquire smaller companies in a race to diversify themselves. The Bedford Report examines the outlook for companies in the Applications Software industry and provides research reports on Adobe Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE) and Intuit, Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU). On Monday, Adobe reported earnings for the fourth quarter ended November 2010. The company posted a profit, excluding items, of 56 cents per share on revenues of $1.01 billion- up 33.1% year over year. Adobe says it expects to earn 54 cents to 59 cents per share in the current quarter, excluding items, on revenue of $1 billion to $1.05 billion.
Adobe, who was rumoured to be an acquisition target of Microsoft back in October, has embraced the smartphone and tablet trend. While Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs, has scoffed at the Adobe's Flash software, Flash has found a home in many other smart phones and tablet computers other than the iPhone and iPad. Adobe's CEO, Shantanu Narayen, says that "the explosion of smartphones and tablets" has made Flash even more important to the market.
