Apple iPhone(TM) Ripe for the Enterprise on the Antenna Mobility Platform(TM)Companies Benefit From Using Same Reliable and Secure Environment to Develop, Deploy and Manage Mobile Applications on the iPhone and More Than 60 Other Devices (December 03, 2008)
JERSEY CITY, NJ -- (Marketwire) -- 12/03/08 -- Antenna Software, delivering real business mobility to the world's most demanding enterprises, today announced that the Antenna Mobility Platform (AMP) now supports the Apple iPhone. By bringing the iPhone onto AMP, Antenna enables CIOs to embrace the device as a robust productivity tool and enjoy enterprise-class security, reliability and end-to-end manageability. With AMP's proven mobile application architecture, IT can easily develop, deploy, manage and secure applications on the iPhone, as well as 60 other different mobile devices, in a cohesive environment -- instead of wasting valuable resources in separate "siloed" development and support efforts.
Antenna, a premier member of the Apple Developer Connection program, surveyed its Global 1000 customer base in September 2008 to assess current usage and future plans for the iPhone in the workplace. Of the 100 respondents, 65 percent stated they were responsible for supporting, managing and/or provisioning mobile solutions at their company. Key findings from the research include:
-- 40 percent of respondents use two or more mobile devices for work purposes (in addition to their laptops) -- 13 percent said they were either currently supporting the iPhone or had it firmly on their roadmap, and an additional 64 percent said they were currently researching and evaluating their iPhone support and strategy -- For those organizations not currently supporting the iPhone, barriers to overcome included total cost of ownership (38 percent), security (35 percent), device management (35 percent) and application provisioning (21 percent) -- 85 percent of respondents were concerned about the use of unsanctioned iPhones in their workplace
"The iPhone will have huge implications in the enterprise market," says Nathan Dyer, senior analyst, Enterprise Mobility, Yankee Group. "Despite the potential of prosumer pull-through in the enterprise, corporate IT remains the gatekeeper of access to enterprise back-end systems. IT must ultimately sanction and support the iPhone to transform the iPhone from a voice-centric, Internet-browsing, rogue device to a fully equipped business machine with seamless access to enterprise systems."
As the iPhone and other new devices inevitably make their way into the enterprise, AMP provides customers with a unified, flexible and secure environment from which IT can launch and manage strategic mobility initiatives. Specifically, AMP provides:
-- Enterprise-Grade Security: Wireless transactions sent on the AMP platform are secure, managed and auditable; enables remote wipe or lock of mobile applications -- Mission-Critical Reliability: AMP offers connected and disconnected access to applications; provides store-and-forward and push notification for real-time messaging -- Flexible, Extensible Platform: AMP supports multiple device platforms, networks and enterprise systems from the same unified environment; enables composite applications using data from multiple heterogeneous systems; lowers total cost of ownership by centralizing management of mobility -- End-to-End Management: AMP enables over-the-air (OTA) application provisioning; monitors and captures all transactions between the mobile device and host systems; integrates with AMP Management Center for greater user and device control and visibility
"The iPhone, G1, Storm, Treo, Touch... CIOs need to embrace the fact that it's a multi-device world," said Jim Hemmer, president and CEO, Antenna Software. "With mobile and wireless technology evolving at rapid-fire pace, IT must not think in terms of mobilizing one system or supporting one device. The transformative power of mobility is achieved with a unified platform like AMP that is built for diversity and constant change -- that is what will enable real competitive advantage, service differentiation and state-of-the-art mobility solutions for years to come."
