The new AirPort allows access for up to 50 users and includes 128-bit encryption and a built-in firewall for added security.
The base station now has two Ethernet ports--a 10Base-T port for connecting to a DSL modem or cable modem and a 10/100Base-T port for connecting the base station to wired local area networks. It also adds a couple of features for the education market, including support for RADIUS central management systems and Cisco's LEAP security method.
AirPort supports speeds of 11 megabits per second at a range of up to 150 feet from the base station. All current Macintosh models and most introduced last year are AirPort-ready. The individual cards run $99, while the base station costs $299. For more information or to download the software, visit http://www.apple.com.
