Apple Tweaks PowerBook Line

Models get CD-RW combo drive standard By Dave Nagel
Apple today announced a minor tweak to its line of Titanium PowerBooks. Both models in the line--the 550 MHz model and the 667 MHz model--now come standard with a combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive (slot-loading). In addition, as Apple had previously announced, the PowerBook models right now are shipping with double the standard RAM (256 MB for the 550 and 512 MB for the 667).

The PowerBook G4 is available in two models. They come with a 15.2-inch wide-screen display (1,152 x 768) and weigh about 5.4 pounds. Features include:

  • 256K of on chip level-2 cache running at full processor speed;
  • 133 MHz system bus in 667 MHz model and 100 MHz system bus in 550 MHz model;
  • AirPort card pre-installed in 667 MHz model;
  • ATI Mobility Radeon graphics with AGP 4X and 16 MB DDR video memory;
  • Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet;
  • 20 GB or 30 GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drives;
  • USB, FireWire, VGA and S-video output.
