Apple Opens Rendezvous Source

Developers commit to networking technology By Dave Nagel
Apple has made the source for its new Rendezvous networking technology available for developers. Beginning today, developers can download the source for Rendezvous under the Apple Public Source License. Apple says the release is part of a larger open source offering, also released today, which includes the Darwin 6.0.1 operating system and additional Open Directory plugins.

Rendezvous is a new technology introduced in Mac OS X 10.2. It uses "industry standard networking protocols and zero configuration technology" to detect devices over an IP network and allows machines equipped with Rendezvous to use these devices without manual configuration. According to Apple, companies like Canon, Epson, Hewlett-Packard, Lexmark, Philips, Sybase, World Book and Xerox have announced support for Rendezvous in network printers, consumer electronics, enterprise database management and educational applications.

Developers can download Rendezvous source from http://www.opensource.apple.com/projects/rendezvous.
