Apple Launches New eMacs

All in one systems start at $799 By Dave Nagel
Apple today announced a new lineup for its eMac family of all in one systems. The new models are priced lower than their predecessors and gain speed enhancements in processing, graphics and disc burning.

The new eMacs offer speeds up to 1 GHz (with a G4 processor), a faster 4x SuperDrive, an ATI Radeon 7500 graphics card, up to 80 GB hard drives and internal support for AirPort Extreme wireless networking. The models continue to offer a 17-inch flat CRT display.


There are three models available in the new lineup. These include:

  • The $799 model, which offers an 800 MHz PowerPC G4 processor; CD-ROM; ATI Radeon 7500 with 32 MB video memory; 128 MB of system memory; and 40 GB ATA hard drive;
  • A $999 model, which offers a 1 GHz PowerPC G4 processor; 32x Combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW optical drive; ATI Radeon 7500 with 32 MB video memory; 128 MB of system memory; and 60 GB ATA hard drive;
  • And a $1,299 model, which offers a 1 GHz PowerPC G4 processor; 4x SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW); ATI Radeon 7500 with 32 MB video memory; 256 MB of system memory; and 80 GB ATA hard drive.

The eMac's 17-inch display supports screen resolutions of up to 1,280 x 960. For networking, the new models include a built-in antenna and card slot to support AirPort Extreme 802.11g wireless networking, built-in 10/100BASE-T Ethernet and a 56K V.92 modem.
