Apple Intros 1 GHz PowerBookiBooks and PowerBooks get makeovers
New models in the PowerBook lineup include an 867 MHz G4 and a 1 GHz G4. Both come in a 1-inch-thick, 5.4-pound titanium enclosure and offer a 15.2-inch widescreen LCD display. The 1 GHz model (available mid-November) includes a SuperDrive, an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card with 64 MB DDR memory, 512 MB SDRAM (expandable to 1 GB), 1 MB level-3 cache and a 60 GB Ultra ATA hard drive. It will sell for $2,999.
The other new PowerBook, the 867 MHz model, does not include a SuperDrive but does come with a combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive. It includes an ATI Mobility Radeon with 32 MB DDR memory, 256 MB SDRAM (expandable to 1 GB), 1 MB level-3 cache and a 40 GB hard drive. It's available now and sells for $2,299.
The new iBook lineup includes three models running G3 chips from 700 MHz to 800 MHz. The low-end 700 MHz model now sells for $999. It includes a 12.1-inch LCD display, an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics card with 16 MB RAM, 128 MB SDRAM, a 20 GB hard drive and a CD-ROM drive. The other two models run 800 MHz G3 chips with 512 KB level-2 cache. They range in price from $1,299 to $1,599.
