Apple Ends OS 9 Development for Final Cut Pro

New release marks the beginning of the OS X-only version By Dave Nagel
Apple has released an update to Final Cut Pro 3 that it says marks the end of development for the program on OS 9. The information comes from Apple's FCP download page, where the latest update for both OS 9 and OS X is now available.

According to Apple's site, "With the release of version 3.0.2 planned development for Final Cut Pro under Mac OS 9 has ended. All future development will be under Mac OS X. Apple will continue to provide Technical Support for compatible Final Cut Pro and Mac OS 9 configurations."

At present, this is the only information available at this time. We've put in a request to Apple for information on the decision and also plans for OS 9 development on Apple's other software products, such as DVD Studio Pro.

As for the latest release of Final Cut Pro, the new version, 3.0.2, is a minor, incremental update that includes some big fixes, as well as new support for exporting chapter and compression markers to DVD Studio Pro 1.5. It also now supports real-time effects for 23.976 fps OfflineRT clips and has updated real-time enablers for the dual 1 GHz G4. According to Apple, the new version also fixes performance and reliability issues with FCP 3.
