Apple Announces New iPodsNew versions offer up to 30 GB storage, AAC audio support
The 15 GB and 30 GB models come with a new dock for connecting to Mac and Windows systems. The dock also includes an audio line out for connection to a home stereo or powered speakers. The iPods recharge automatically when connected to a computer and automatically synchronize with digital music libraries on a computer.
The new iPods also offer a solid-state navigation wheel and backlit buttons with enhanced touch sensitivity; a form factor that's now thinner than two CDs; a customizable main menu; and an "On the Go" playlist feature for building playlists directly on the iPod itself.
Apple's new iPods will be available May 2 in three configurations. The 10 GB model will sell for $299. The 15 GB model will sell for $399. ANd the 30 GB model will sell for $499. (The new iPod will also support USB 2.0 with Windows PCs starting in June via a free software download. A separate USB 2.0 cable will be available for $19.)
