Apple Announces New G4 DesktopsCompany also intros 20-inch Cinema display
All of the new G4s are built on Xserve architecture and include FireWire 800, the next generation of FireWire technology, which debuted in the 17-inch PowerBook announced earlier this month. Each machine offers one FireWire 800 port and two FireWire 400 ports, in addition to standard USB 1.1 ports. They also include internal support for 54 Mbps AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth wireless technologies. For expansion, they feature four 64-bit, 33 MHz PCI slots, an AGP 4x slot and two drive bays for optical drives. The SuperDrive is now available standard in only the top-end G4.
The low-end, single-processor 1 GHz G4 includes 1 MB level-3 cache, 256 MB DDR266 RAM, 60 GB ATA/100 hard drive, a combo (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) drive and Nvidia GeForce4 MX with 64 MB video memory. It sells for $1,499 and is available now.
The mid-range G4 offers a dual 1.25 GHz G4 configuration with 1 MB level-3 cache per processor, 256 MB DDR333 RAM, 80 GB ATA/100 hard drive, combo drive and ATI Radeon 9000 Pro with 64 MB video memory. It sells for $1,999 and is available now.
The high-end model offers dual 1.42 GHz G4 processors with 2 MB level-3 cache per processor, 512 MB DDR333 RAM, 120 GB ATA/100 hard drive, a SuperDrive and ATI Radeon 9000 Pro graphics board with 64 MB video memory. It will sell for $2,699 when it ships next month.
The new 20-inch Cinema display offers a resolution of 1,680 x 1,050 pixels and sells for $1,299. It's available now. For more information, visit http://www.apple.com.
