'App Haikus' Show Impact of Cloud Services on Workplace

As Cloud Services Drive IT Growth, Professionals Develop Intimate Relationships With Apps (July 12, 2012)

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 07/12/12 -- As cloud services drive growth in IT spending, professionals are developing more complex -- and some might say intimate -- relationships with apps, as evidenced by submissions to an 'App Haiku' contest sponsored by BestVendor, an online resource where professionals share and discover the best software and work-related apps.

On Monday, Gartner released a report projecting cloud services to nearly double over the next four years, topping $207 billion by 2016. It's the one bright spot in an otherwise slow-growing IT industry.

As services like Dropbox, Google Docs, and Salesforce.com fuel this growth, how are they impacting work life at the individual level? Here are 10 submissions to BestVendor's App Haiku contest that reveal professionals' growing relationships with these services.

"Cloud services are changing the way people work and generally making them happier and more productive," said Jeff Giesea, founder & CEO of BestVendor. "We launched the 'AppHaiku Contest' to give professionals a fun and more personal way to express this."

BestVendor launched the contest last Friday, asking contestants to submit poetry about the productivity apps and software that they love (or hate) above all others. The AppHaiku contest will run through August 3rd, and rules are available on the BestVendor blog. Anyone can enter by submitting a haiku on the Facebook contest page or tweeting a haiku to @BestVendor using the hashtag #AppHaiku.
