Apogee Announces Rosetta 800 Expansion Cards

Two-channel Mini-MP preamp also debuts By Dave Nagel
Apogee Electronics has debuted a variety of new expansion cards for its Rosetta 800 AD/DA converter, including a FireWire expansion card and two boards designed for connecting up to Pro Tools systems. One of the Pro Tools expansion cards is available now, with the rest of the gear expected to roll out through April 2004.

On the Pro Tools front, Apogee has introduced two expansion cards for connecting the Rosetta 800 to Pro Tools Mix and Pro Tools|HD systems. The Rosetta 800 itself is an eight-channel, 24-bit AD/DA converter with support for sample rates up to 192 kHz. The new expansion cards for the Rosetta 800 include Digi-Mix, which offers a standard Digidesign peripheral interface for connecting directly to Mix Core or Farm cards, as well as Superclock output. It's available now for $595.

Also for Pro Tools is the X-HD option card, designed to connect the Rosetta 800 directly with Pro Tools|HD systems to provide conversion without the need for an additional interface. It provides a primary HD port for connecting directly to HD Core or Accel cards and another expansion port for daisychaining multiple Apogee devices. It's compatible with the latest Pro Tools software and can be used alongside similar interface. The X-HD will be available in April for $595.

Apogee has also announced the X-FireWire card, an expansion option for the Rosetta 800 that offers direct connectivity to any FireWire-based computer. Compatible with the Mac OS X FireWire Core Audio Driver, the expansion card provides up to 16 24-bit channels at up to 192 kHz and 16 x 16 channels at 24-bit/96 kHz. It includes two FireWire 800 connectors (with support for FireWire 400) and can provide a master clock source for a FireWire audio network. It will be available in April 2004 for $595.

Finally, Apogee has also introduced the Mini-MP, an extension to the company's Mini series of audio hardware that includes the Mini-Me and Mini-DAC. The Mini-MP is a two-channel analog mic/instrument preamp that offers two low-distortion preamps with 70 dB of stepless gain. It offers phantom power for the mic inputs and High-Z inputs for instruments.Other features include new balanced line drivers, middle-side mode an an 80 Hz high-pass filter. It will be available in November for $995.
