Apkudo Treats Developer Launch Anxiety With New Android Application Testing PlatformLets Developers See Their Apps Run on Every Available Android Device (November 09, 2011)
BALTIMORE, MD and SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/09/11 -- AnDevCon II -- Apkudo, Inc., an Android innovation start-up, today announced the Apkudo test platform. Apkudo reduces launch anxiety by allowing developers to see their apps run on every available Android device, providing detailed test reports, screenshots and video playback. With Apkudo, developers can release their apps confident of a solid Android user experience.
"Android, at its core, is built on openness and freedom, which has led to astonishing innovation. On the flip side, it creates a challenge for the ecosystem: fragmentation," said Josh Matthews, Apkudo CEO and co-founder. "The message we've heard from developers is they're anxious before an app launch. Our goal is to tackle that launch anxiety and give developers confidence for a successful launch."
When Android implementations diverge in hardware, look and feel, behavior, APIs and other aspects, developers can find their apps work on some Android phones and tablets but not on others. With hundreds of Android-based devices on the market, and new devices released every month, app testing is daunting and the risk of unexpected failures is high.
Apkudo tackles fragmentation by running applications on every available Android device. Developers upload APKs (Android Packages) for testing and view video output of applications running on the actual Android device collection. They also receive test reports detailing execution and performance results across the whole Apkudo portfolio. Apkudo is currently in private beta and will shortly be available free to Android application developers. Future features, including ongoing monitoring by automatically re-testing apps when new devices are released, will be monetized.
"The Apkudo vision for a better Android user experience builds on developer feedback and insight from exercising apps on real hardware," noted Benno Leslie, Apkudo president and director of Products. "Our methods, roadmap, and analytical foundation give Apkudo a clear edge over device clouds that simply rent access by the minute."
