Aperture 1.5 Beyond the Basics: Workflow Essentials

In Part 3 of our excerpts of's Aperture training, Scott Bourne and Derrick Story talk workflow By Derrick Story and Scott Bourne

Professional and amateur photographers alike can take advantage of the advanced photo management tools in Aperture--from organization to editing to output. In Aperture 1.5 Beyond the Basics, instructors Scott Bourne and Derrick Story teach users how to manipulate photos with the Color Adjustment tool, sharpen edges, and create preset adjustments and file settings for efficient editing and grouping. The training also details how to use the extensive metadata and organizational features in Aperture for smart photo sorting and presentation.

In this video, Scott Bourne and Derrick Story discuss Aperture's workflow. Derrick discusses his five basic steps that he uses for his workflow. He details a sample workflow that he uses starting with upload and import.

One of the things that he thinks is important when importing photos into Aperture is to add keywords and metadata as you bring them in, then you know there are keywords, copyright, captions and other metadata already in the pictures, so you don't have to go in later and apply metadata to each image later. He then rates his images from the get go to work with the best ones right away.
