Anime Studio Pro 5

Dynamic IK bone rig physics By Ko Maruyama
At Siggraph 2007, E-Frontier showed off Anime Studio, a very easy to use, vector based animation system.  Of particular interest to me is the fact that Anime Studio allows animators to use bone IK systems in their vector animations.  This alone make animating characters a breeze, but the addition of bone dynamics makes the entire process even more dynamic.

Originally debuting in Mike Clifton's Moho software (now called Anime Studio Pro), IK bone rigs are a key and perhaps the one thing that sets Anime Studio apart from other vector animation systems of its kind.   The possibilities for software development are interesting - but in its current configuration, Anime Studio is still an amazing animation tool.  At under $200US, it certainly should be part of any digital cel animator's arsenal of tools.

Brian Romero, Senior SQA Engineer for the the software was on hand to give me a quick run-through of two of the more obvious aspects of the bone-in animation.  In this movie, Brian quickly demonstrates just how easy dynamics is to set up, and what it adds to a very primitive animation.
