Animation Dynamics Creates Detailed Medical AnimationAnimation demos Acumed Acu-Loc Distal Radius Plate surgical implant (November 09, 2004)
Animation Dynamics (ADi) has completed a detailed medical animation to help surgeons better understand and use the Acumed Acu-Loc Distal Radius Plate, a surgical implant that helps mend a break in the wrist-end of the radius. The anatomically and procedurally correct video depicts a forearm surgery, showing only the parts of the body necessary for understanding how the device works. Further, the animation shows a semitransparent view of the distal radius, allowing doctors to see the unmatched accuracy of the device's screws as they take purchase in the broken bone. Acumed will use the video for marketing the Acu-Loc Distal Radius Plate to surgeons, hospitals and medical supply companies.
"Surgeons are a demanding crowd, and they should be," says ADi Executive Producer Kate Ertmann. "Show them a perfect simulation of a surgical procedure, and they'll be able to focus on the product. But show them a split second of something that's anatomically or procedurally wrong, and they'll balk at the entire presentation."
Based in Hillsboro, Oregon, Acumed designs, manufactures and markets highly specialized orthopedic trauma and reconstruction products. The company's Acu-Loc Distal Radius Plate is a medical implant that's used to fix breaks in the wrist-end of the radius (a forearm bone). Beautifully honed and anodized, the plate bridges the fracture and binds the two sides with carefully positioned screws. The Acumed advantage lies in a unique drill guide, which helps surgeons consistently drive the screws in the right positions at the proper angles.
