Angel Food Ministries officials face fraud chargesAngel Food Ministries officials facing fraud charges in wake of federal indictment
ATLANTA (AP) ' Several leaders of a Georgia-based ministry that provided discounted groceries to needy families across the U.S. have been indicted and face a wide range of charges.
Authorities say a federal indictment charges three officials associated with Angel Food and an employee with dozens of counts including fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and others. The indictment was filed Tuesday and first reported Friday.
The indictment outlines a total of 49 counts.
In October, the ministry said it was going out of business after 17 years, citing the economic downturn.
Angel Food was started in 1994 by two Georgia pastors with 34 families in Monroe. It grew through a network of churches to feed more than 500,000 families a month in 45 states.
