An Evening of Stand-Up With Russell Brand -- a Benefit for the David Lynch Foundation Tuesday, November 29th at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco(November 10, 2011)
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/10/11 -- British comedian and actor Russell Brand comes to San Francisco for a very special evening of stand-up comedy at the Palace of Fine Arts on Tuesday, November 29 to benefit the David Lynch Foundation (which supports stress-reducing meditation programs for veterans, inner-city students and the homeless).
In 2010 Russell Brand was seen in Universal's hit comedy, "Get Him to the Greek." Brand reunited with "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" producer, Judd Apatow, reprising his iconic role as 'Aldous Snow.' Brand also lent his voice to the role of Dr. Nefario in Universal's hit, animated feature film "Despicable Me," which included the vocal talents of Steve Carell and Jason Segel. The film grossed an amazing $543,113,985 million at the box office.
Also an acclaimed author, Brand has written two books, "My Booky Wook: A Memoir of Sex, Drugs and Stand-Up," which was on The New York Times best-seller list for five weeks in a row, and the follow up, "Booky Wook 2: This Time It's Personal."
Beginning his career as a stand-up comedian, Brand rose to fame in the UK in 2003 for his "Big Brother" spin-off, "Big Brother's Big Mouth." He launched his first nationwide tour, Shame, in 2006; the show was released on DVD as Russell Brand: Live. Brand launched his second nationwide tour in 2007, Russell Brand: Only Joking; released on DVD as Russell Brand: Doin' Life. He brought his stand-up comedy tour to the United States in 2009 with his tour, Russell Brand: Scandalous.
Brand recently wrapped production for the Warner Brothers musical "Rock of Ages," starring opposite Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin. The Broadway adapted musical directed by Adam Shankman is slated for release on June 1, 2012. He will soon begin filming Diablo Cody's directorial debut in Mandate Pictures' untitled film, previously titled "Lamb of God." The film also stars Julianne Hough and Octavia Spencer and is slated for release in 2013.
A celebrity who has once battled addiction himself, Brand currently splits his time in New York and Los Angeles with his wife, Katy Perry. He is a meditator and very supportive of the work of the David Lynch Foundation. All proceeds from this night of stand-up comedy in San Francisco will benefit the David Lynch Foundation.
"After I learned Transcendental Meditation on a 4-day course, I truly believe first hand that this practice does wonders with your mind, body and soul. Now daily practice is putting distance between myself and addiction." - Russell Brand
