Altibox Deploys Envivio Encoders for Norways First Multi-screen Video Service(November 15, 2011)

Envivio, a leading provider of live and on-demand multi-screen IP video processing and delivery solutions, today announced that Altibox, a leading telecom service provider in Norway, has deployed Envivio 4Caster C4 Gen III encoders to power the new Altibox Chill multi-screen streaming service. Chill delivers 40 channels of video as well as the Altibox library of VOD content to PCs, Macs, iOS and Android devices using HTTP adaptive bit-rate (ABR) streaming in Microsoft Smooth Streaming format. Altibox plans to expand the service to more devices in coming months.
We wanted to go beyond our existing IPTV, voice and data services and enable video content to any device in order to provide a better experience to our 270,000 subscribers throughout Norway, said Per André Rykhus, VP of markets, sales and products for Altibox. With the 4Caster encoders, Envivio offered us a high quality, feature-rich solution that also makes it possible for us to quickly scale to support new formats and devices.
Envivio 4Caster is a versatile platform that performs a variety of functionsincluding multi-profile encoding, transcoding, packaging, encryption and publishingin a single system that delivers broadcast-quality TV, HTTP streaming and 3GPP mobile video.
Using ABR streaming, image quality can be adjusted to provide the best picture for the available bandwidth on any device. Altibox Chill will also support capabilities that allow the viewer to pause and continue viewing of programs on different devices.
Service providers around the world continue to turn to Envivio for their multi-screen video services, said Julien Signès, Envivios president and CEO. Altibox has put in place a flexible infrastructure that allows them to expand the Chill service over time to take advantage of the growing trend toward viewing on PCs and other devices including iOS and Android tablets and smartphones.
Envivio now serves more than 250 customers in 57 countries. Every day, Envivio encoders ingest more than 16,000 live IPTV, Internet TV and Mobile TV channels and process more than 34,000 unique streams serving tens of millions of viewers.
