Alias Supports Kaydara FBX Format

Free Maya plugin available now By Dave Nagel
Alias has started offering support for the FBX file format in Maya, the company's 3D modeling and animation suite. FBX is a file format from Kaydara designed for the interchange of 3D data. A free FBX plugin for Maya is available now for Mac OS X and Windows systems.

The Kaydara FBX-Maya plugin is designed to provide a pathway for the acquisition and exchange of 3D data. FBX is a binary file format that supports all the major 3D data, as well as 2D, audio and video. It operates as a generic wrapper, packaging 3D data into a single file that can then be opened and read by most major 3D applications, either natively or through plugins. It can transfer all major NURBS and polygon surface types; key frame and mocap animation; shapes and morph targets; materials and textures; lights; cameras; and hierarchical information. It also supports a variety of character data, including IK, envelopes and deformations, as well as motion data. And it provides security for files through password protection.

The new Kaydara FBX-Maya plugin is available as a free download from Kaydara and Alias and will be included on future Maya CDs. For more information or to download the software, visit
