Alias Launches Two New Books In The Learning Maya 7 SeriesThe Modeling & Animation Handbook and The Special Effects Handbook help intermediate-level artists (September 12, 2005)
Based on the Academy Award-winning animated short The ChubbChubbs! from Sony Pictures Imageworks, Learning Maya 7 | The Modeling & Animation Handbook, available now, and Learning Maya 7 | The Special Effects Handbook, available September 25, offer step-by-step tutorials for understanding the various stages of a production pipeline and how they fit together.
Learning Maya 7 | The Modeling & Animation Handbook provides the resources needed to learn how to refine models with a variety of surface types and then make them move with a wide range of animation techniques. The book helps artists make sound decisions from the beginning, to avoid unnecessary challenges further down the pipeline. As a bonus feature, this hands-on book also introduces the reader to character animation using Alias MotionBuilder software.
Each book is accompanied by a DVD-ROM containing resources such as lesson support files, Alias Certified Instructor-led movie overviews guiding each project and excerpts from The ChubbChubbs! As well, Learning Maya 7 | The Modeling & Animation Handbook comes with free Turbo Squid 3D models valued at US $460 and Learning Maya 7 | The Special Effects Handbook comes with free Turbo Squid textures valued at US $475.
?The visuals in both books are very appealing and make them engaging to read, says Sande Scoredos, executive director, training and artist development at Sony Pictures Imageworks. ?The added ?Alias Tips consisting of notes and pointers written by Alias developers, application engineers and product specialists are excellent at helping readers follow through each lesson. Imageworks is pleased to be able to contribute to these educational materials and looks forward to the valuable resources these books will provide.
Learning Maya 7 | The Special Effects Handbook builds on the characters and scenes created in Learning Maya 7 | The Modeling & Animation Handbook to explore the rendering and dynamic effects stages of the production pipeline. With this book, artists will learn to light, texture and create shaders for models using the Maya and mental ray renderers. They will also learn to create water, smoke and fire effects to add realism to scenes. This book is full of useful theoretical discussions that ensure a clear understanding of the principles behind actions so that readers get the results they want time and again.
?Our unique partnership with Sony Pictures Imageworks has resulted in two very special books that combine production-style content with pipeline awareness to create an exciting learning experience, says Danielle Lamothe, product manager, learning tools and training at Alias. ?We paid a lot of attention to detail in creating these books. Artists will be inspired by the visuals, including the flipbook feature and image gallery.
Learning Maya 7 | The Modeling & Animation Handbook and Learning Maya 7 | The Special Effects Handbook are priced from US $69.99* and can be purchased from the Alias eStore at www.alias.com/glb/eng/products-services/learning_tools.jsp.
