Alias Descends on SIGGRAPH 2004Celebrates customer success and new product and service (August 05, 2004)
Alias today unveiled its line up of events at this years SIGGRAPH tradeshow in Los Angeles, CA. SIGGRAPH 2004 marks Alias debut as an independent company following the completion of Alias acquisition by Accel-KKR and Ontario Teachers Pension Plan from SGI earlier this year. Kicking off SIGGRAPH with Alias Annual User Group Association (AGUA) meeting on Sunday, August 8th and Maya MasterClasses beginning Monday, August 9th, Alias descends on SIGGRAPH in full force to celebrate the accomplishments of its computer graphics customers over the past year.
Located at booth #1312, Alias will feature its full range of products at the show Maya, StudioTools and Alias SketchBook Pro. Alias will make important Maya product and service announcements, as well as demonstrate its latest software available for the Mac Maya Unlimited and Alias SketchBook Pro, along with the Alias StudioTools family of products and Maya 6. Alias customers such as Sony Pictures Imageworks and PDI/DreamWorks will be the highlight of the week as they will respectively talk about Spider-Man 2 and Shrek 2.
More than 2,000 CG Industry Professionals To Attend AGUA
Known as the hottest ticket in town to launch SIGGRAPH 2004, this years AGUA event takes place in downtown Los Angeles at The Orpheum Theater on Sunday, August 8th, 2004. AGUA 2004 sponsors NVIDIA, HP and Intel join Alias and more than 2,000 event attendees for a tribute to the companys customers. Confirmed presenters include Naughty Dog showcasing its Jak 3 project and Chris Landreth profiling his award-winning animated short Ryan.
This years Maya Masters will also be awarded on the AGUA main stage. 2004 Maya Masters come from around the globe and will be honored for their work as talented leaders in the field of 3D. Past Maya Masters include Scot Brew, Chris Landreth, Takahito Tejima, Jason Schleifer and Habib Zargarpour.
Another SIGGRAPH favorite, growing in popularity every year, are the Maya MasterClasses that will take place at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel (Hollywood Ballroom) August 9th 12th, 2004. The 16 unique MasterClasses are 90-minute sessions exploring various aspects of Maya for the creation of films, special effects and video games, with a special consideration placed on best practices. Industry experts presenting at this years Maya MasterClasses include: Chris Landreth, presenting the making of Ryan; Adrian Graham, from Toybox, presenting Particle Instancing; and Erik Miller, from Digital Domain, presenting Hyper-Real Facial Rigging.
Papers and Panels
Alias research staff are regular contributors and presenters in the Papers and Panels session at SIGGRAPH. This year, Alias research scientist Jos Stam and collaborators from the University of Washington in Seattle have a paper presentation in the ?Smoke, Water and Goop paper session on Tuesday, August 10th at 10:30 a.m. Stam, who holds a PhD from the University of Toronto will also contribute to the ?Simulating Nature course on Wednesday, August 11th at 9:30 a.m. where he will present the core technology behind Maya Fluid Effects, one of Maya's most advanced feature sets.
New Maya 6 Learning Tools Debut at SIGGRAPH
Alias will debut many new Maya 6 Learning Tools at SIGGRAPH 2004, with DVDs and books available for purchase at the Alias booth. The Maya Learning Tools are priced from US$34.99 and offer a variety of learning path options for the beginner through advanced level users of Maya. Some of the new Learning Tools available on DVD at SIGGRAPH will include Maya 6 Beginners Guide bundled with Maya 6 Personal Learning Edition, Discover Maya | Broadcast Animation, Maya Techniques | Hyper Real Facial Rigging, Maya Techniques | Hyper Real Body Rigging and Maya Techniques | The Making of Ryan. Also making its debut will be the latest edition to the Learning Maya 6 series of books, Learning Maya 6 | Modeling.
