Agency will investigate 911 call in Powell fire

Agency will investigate 911 call in Powell fire, sheriff's office had criticized dispatcher By The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) ' An investigation has been launched into how a 911 dispatcher handled a call from a social worker frantically trying to alert authorities that Josh Powell had locked his two sons in his home.

The Pierce County Sheriff's department criticized the dispatcher, saying he could have been more responsive on the seven-minute call. But authorities say they don't think the emergency response was delayed to the home where Powell lit a fire, killing himself and his young boys.

The Law Enforcement Support Agency, which handles 911 calls for the area, said it has begun a "full investigation," with the focus on improving 911 procedures.

The agency says it will work to determine whether disciplinary action should be taken.
