Age Related Macular Degeneration Check for Symptoms, Monitor Changes

  (August 30, 2011)

(PRWEB) August 30, 2011

The MEAViSTA program - available for Windows and for Mac - was developed by RCGLOBAL to check for and to monitor the presence of Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) which is one of the leading eye diseases that in most cases ends in visual impairment. Surprisingly many persons are not familiar with this eye disease until they have been diagnosed with it and when it is often too late for an eye physician to effectively tread and control the disease.

It is important to detect AMD in its early stage. The sooner it is diagnosed by an eye physician, the better the chances to control the disease. AMD usually starts in one eye. As long as the other eye is doing well, the vision problem will often not be noticed until the other eye is also affected with AMD.

In general, symptoms of AMD can be detected relatively easily by looking at an Amsler grid. If AMD is present, some straight lines are seen as curved lines, or a blurred area is present. Nowadays, for anyone using a computer with the easily to install MEAVISTA program, it is still easier and faster to look for symptoms of AMD. The program is based on an Amsler grid with additional advanced functions and it takes only seconds to check for symptoms of AMD. If symptoms of AMD are detected, an eye physician should be contacted as soon as possible.

If AMD already was diagnosed and is present, the affected area can be seen on the Amsler grid in the MEAVISTA program and an outline can be created around the affected area visible on the grid. This outline can be saved and will be displayed and visible in future checks to help identify changes of the affected area. Also, the outline can easily be modified and updated according to changes of the affected area. Changes should be reported as soon as possible to an eye physician.

Considering that many persons over 55 years old have AMD, it is recommended that those in their early fifties periodically take a few seconds to check their vision for symptoms of Age Related Macular Degeneration and do not wait until it is too late.
