After Effects Power Pack Coming in May

Package includes 16 new filters By Dave Nagel
It was supposed to be a surprise kept until NAB, but following leaks today to various news outlets, Adobe has decided to make it official. The company will launch in May a new set of filters for After Effects 5.5 called the "Plug-In Power Pack." The Pack includes 16 new effects for After Effects and also introduces Advanced Windows Media support, according to Adobe.

The Power Pack support Mac OS X platform and includes new plugins, such as Calculations, 3D Glasses, Magnify and Turbulent Displacement. 3D Glasses combine left and right 3D views for stereoscopic viewing. Magnify scales portions of an image "while maintaining resolution," Adobe says. Turbulent Displacement uses fractal noise to create turbulent distortions, such as flowing water. And the Calculations plugin is similar to the Calculations command in Adobe Photoshop.

Other enhancements in the Power Pack include

  • Paint Bucket
  • Channel Combiner
  • Color Link
  • Eyedropper Fill
  • Noise Alpha
  • Noise HLS
  • Radial Shadow.

The After Effects 5.5 Plug-In Power Pack is expected to ship in May. It will be available for download from the online Adobe Store for $25. For more information, visit
