Adobe Sponsors UN FAO TeleFood Concert Events

(August 07, 2001)
Adobe Systems announced a US$1.5 million grant to support Goundwork 2001, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) annual campaign designed to raise money and awareness to reduce hunger worldwide. Adobe's contribution will underwrite a series of concert events held October 14-22, 2001 in Seattle, Wash. Proceeds will support global farming and agricultural enterprises that enable hungry people to produce more food for their families and communities.

Groundwork 2001 is the US component of FAO's global TeleFood campaign. Currently, over 1,000 TeleFood projects are active in more than 100 countries.

"As the primary contributor to Groundwork 2001, Adobe is setting an example of the very best in corporate philanthropy," said Jacques Diouf, FAO Director-General. "By clearly supporting the efforts of FAO and raising awareness for these concert events on a global scale, together we will be able to generate funds to help the hungry. With the financial and in-kind support from Adobe, we can work toward eradicating hunger by providing agricultural communities around the world with the help and information they need to produce their own food and rise out of poverty."

"Adobe is pleased to partner with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to fight hunger worldwide," said Bruce Chizen, Adobe president and CEO. "Since the company's inception in 1982, we have always believed that corporate philanthropy is important in times of plenty and in times of economic uncertainty when there is a greater need for support." In addition to the cash donation, Adobe is providing Groundwork with in-kind support, including technology for the development of the Groundwork 2001 website, promotional and executive resources. Both Adobe and FAO recognize the potential to use information technology at the grassroots level to provide information to help increase food production.

Adobe's sponsorship is a charitable contribution directed through Adobe's Community Relations organization that manages philanthropic support. For more information about Adobe's Community Relations programs or to view a copy of the 2000 Community Relations Annual Report, please visit
