Add Motion templates to create lower thirds in Final Cut Pro

Add some extremely cool and highly customizable Motion templates to your footage By David Basulto

If you have ever seen the motion graphics stream across the screen on your favorite TV show, news cast or game show, and dreamed of having that on your own videos, your prayers have been answered. Final Cut Pro, part of Final Cut Studio 2, lets you add some extremely cool and highly customizable Motion templates to your footage to add some pizzazz. It is simple to do too.

Step 1
To add a template to your footage go to either Effects > Master Templates > ?xxx-lower thirds. You can also click on the ?A with the film frame surrounding it on the bottom right of the Viewer and select Master Templates.

Step 2
Choose from the menu a ?lower thirds template. This will open in the Viewer.


Step 3
Preview the template.

Step 4
Add the template on top of your footage in the timeline and keep it selected.

Step 5
In the Viewer click on Controls. You can customize the text here. Also visit the Motion tab to change scale, opacity, rotation and more.

Step 6
Click on the sequence timeline and press Opt P to see a render preview.

Step 7
All done!
