Adaptec Intros Ultra320 SCSI RAID Cards

Lineup includes new browser-based management software By Dave Nagel
Adaptec today introduced four new Ultra320 SCSI RAID controllers. The lineup includes zero-, one- and two-channel low-profile models and ships with Adaptec's new management software, Adaptec Storage Manager Browser Edition.

The new cards include a one- and two-channel controller--the SCSI RAID 2120S and 2200S--which include features like RAID-level migration and Online Capacity Expansion for reconfiguring fault-tolerance settings and increasing storage capacity on the fly. These two cards allow full-capacity use of drives of different sizes mixed in a RAID so the array can be upgraded with higher-capacity drives without wasting the extra storage space. Competing products limit use of disk drive space to the smallest-capacity drive in an array.

The new lower-cost zero-channel RAID cards--the SCSI RAID 2015S and 2010S--feature Adaptec's Embedded RAID Logic technology, which allows the controllers to use SCSI channels on the motherboard rather than on the card.

All four cards include Adaptec's new Storage Manager Browser Edition management software, which allows for configuration and management of the cards through a Web browser.

The cards are expected to ship in September. The 2120S runs $525; the 2200S sells for $799; and the 2010S and 2015S sell for $275. For more information, visit
